This post will mostly concern Kirara Hoshi, but applies to any character with a canonically ambiguous gender identity.

tl;dr – Kirara Hoshi’s gender is not confirmed one way or the other in the source material. Unless an image specifically depicts them as transfem, then we will allow posts of this character. Aggressively arguing about this in the comments of a post will result in warnings or bans.

Ok, so if you’re like us you don’t watch or read JJK. Or any shonen anime really. So when you see someone post art of Kirara Hoshi with a flat chest and a dick, it’s a little jarring when you check the comments and several people are calling the OP a “dipshit”, “asshole”, or “transphobic garbage”.

Firstly, to the people who claim Kirara is trans, one thing up front – your blorbo is not that popular. Yes, people watch/read JJK. Yes, it’s a well known series. But you need to face the reality that this character is not as well known as one like Bridget from Guilty Gear. Assuming that every person who posts art of this character even knows who they are is being disingenuous.

Secondly, there is no definitive moment in the source material where this character’s gender identity is stated. In all discussions about this topic there is no moment or panel that anyone can point to where it is made clear. Another character refers to Kirara as a boy and Kirara’s boyfriend is supposedly aggressively straight. Our opinion is that referring to Kirara as a boy contrary to their appearance is done intentionally to be ambiguous and that their boyfriend being “straight” is fairly irrelevant. Defining Kirara’s gender identity based on their boyfriend’s sexual identity is weak.

Regardless, the point is that this character’s gender identity is canonically ambiguous. We are not the only mods who have made this determination. The mods of r/transhentai (notably a completely different mod team with no affiliation to this sub) determined that Kirara’s gender identity is canonically ambiguous at some other point in time. We will allow posts of Kirara Hoshi here, unless it is abundantly clear that they are depicted as transfem in the image. At the time of writing this posts there are 257 images of them on Rule34. Many of those do depict them with breasts. Those images will be removed if posted here.

None of this gives anyone license to be transphobic here. Aggressively gendering Kirara as a boy as a way to antagonize any other member will not be met with kindness by the mod team.

Finally, can we all just fucking chill out? The level of anger we have seen about this is genuinely worrying. Please take a moment to breathe and do not assume that the person posting the image is doing it to antagonize you. Much like the mod team before this post, they might just literally have no idea who this character is! Much like Bridget, if a definitive moment occurs in the source material to confirm Kirara as trans, then we will no longer allow posts of them.
